Watch a Lindsay Davenport serve replay next to a Justine Henin rally and you’d think you were watching two different sports. Lindsay Davenport, at 6’2½” (189 cm), is the tallest player ever to reach world No. 1. Across the late 1990s and early 2000s she won Wimbledon, the US Open, and the Australian Open, three Grand Slam singles titles in all, largely by overpowering opponents with a flat, heavy ball rather than outmaneuvering them.

Does height always win?

No. Justine Henin, at 5’5”, and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, at 5’6”, both reached No. 1 and won multiple majors on footwork and tactics rather than size. Serena Williams, a relatively moderate 5’9”, won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, more than any of the tallest players on this list combined. Monica Seles, at 5’10”, proved that groundstroke power alone can dismantle taller, harder-serving opponents.

Height helps. It does not decide anything by itself.

The tallest women on tour in 2024–2026

The current game rewards power and movement together, and several of the tour’s tallest players are among its best. Karolina Pliskova (6’1”) remains the tallest former No. 1 still competing after her 2026 return. Elena Rybakina (6’0”/184 cm), the 2022 Wimbledon champion, added the 2025 WTA Finals and the 2026 Australian Open and rose to a career-high No. 2 in early 2026.
