The Chechen-born fighter, who competed at welterweight and middleweight, ran through opponents with heavy wrestling and sharp striking. In August 2025 he beat Dricus du Plessis to win the UFC middleweight title while still undefeated, capping the run he had been building toward.

Ilia Topuria is another of the era’s standout unbeaten fighters. He knocked out Alexander Volkanovski to win the featherweight belt, then moved up and claimed the lightweight title against Charles Oliveira in 2025, holding titles in two weight classes without a professional loss on his record.

Islam Makhachev won the UFC lightweight title without a loss inside the promotion; his only career defeat came earlier, outside the UFC. His wrestling, developed in the same Dagestani gym as training partner Khabib Nurmagomedov, let him control fights on the mat almost at will.

Khabib Nurmagomedov retired with a 29-0 record across his entire career and never dropped a round on the judges’ scorecards during his UFC title reign. He defended the belt three times before walking away at 29-0, a run few lightweights have come close to matching since.

Why Undefeated Records Don’t Stay Undefeated

The UFC’s matchmaking exists to test fighters, not protect them. Win a few fights and the level of opponent goes up immediately. Most fighters who arrive on a winning streak eventually run into someone who exposes a gap in their game: a bad night, one clean strike, a split-second lapse in a scramble.
