About 162-0

What is 162-0?

This 162-0 is a fast, free MLB roster-building game: spin for an era, draft one player per position across nine rounds — catcher through pitcher — and simulate a full season to see how close you get to a perfect record. It's built in the same spirit as the small genre of viral "draft an all-time roster and chase an undefeated season" games that started in basketball and has since spread to football and baseball — including other products that use the "162-0" name — but it's an original, independently built game, not a clone of any of them, and not affiliated with any of them.

How to play

Each of the nine rounds targets a specific position: catcher, first base, second base, third base, shortstop, left field, center field, right field, and pitcher, in that order. Spin to reveal an era and a candidate pool, pick your player, and move to the next round. A limited number of rerolls are available if a spin leaves you with nothing that fits. Once all nine positions are filled, the season simulates automatically.

Why hitters and the pitcher get rated on different scales

Every "perfect season" game we researched — in basketball, football, and baseball alike — reduces every player to one blended production score. That works fine when every roster spot does the same job, but baseball's roster doesn't: eight of your nine picks are hitters, judged on contact, power, plate discipline, speed, and defense, and the ninth is a pitcher, judged on an entirely different set of skills — swing-and-miss stuff, command of the strike zone, and the stamina to go deep into a game. Flawless Diamond keeps those two rating systems separate all the way through, so your final grade actually reflects whether you built a real lineup and found a real arm to send to the mound, not just whether you drafted nine high numbers.

Why the schedule length actually changes

MLB played a 154-game regular season before the early-1960s expansion pushed it to 162, where it has stayed since. Every version of this game we looked at simulates a fixed number of games regardless of which era you draft from — this build simulates the actual schedule length for whichever era your roster ends up representing.

Classic vs. Blind Draft

Classic mode shows full ratings while you draft, so you can make informed, strategic picks. Blind Draft hides every number — you're drafting on position, archetype, and what you actually remember, then finding out how good your instincts were when the season simulates.

What the chemistry breakdown actually shows

Every completed roster gets a named list of what's working and what isn't — bonuses like Balanced Lineup, Ace on the Mound, or Airtight Defense, and penalties like Thin on the Mound, Shaky Defense, or Free-Swinging Lineup — each with the specific reason it triggered. If your run falls short of flawless, you can see exactly why.

Frequently asked questions

Is this 162-0 affiliated with MLB or any other roster-building game?

No. This is an independent, original game. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or licensed by MLB, and it is not a clone of or affiliated with any other "perfect season" roster-building game — including any other product that shares the "162-0" name.

Is 162-0 free to play?

Yes, entirely free, with no account required. Progress and personal bests are saved to your browser only.

How many players do you draft?

Nine, one per round: catcher, first base, second base, third base, shortstop, left field, center field, right field, and pitcher — a real position on the diamond every round, not just a pile of interchangeable bats.

Why are hitters and the pitcher rated so differently?

Because they actually are different jobs. Every hitter is rated on contact, power, plate discipline, speed, and fielding. The pitcher is rated separately on stuff, control, and innings-eating stamina. Most games in this genre score every player on one blended "production" number, which flattens the exact thing that makes a real roster hard to build: your lineup and your pitching live or die on entirely different skills.

Does the season length change by era?

Yes. MLB played a 154-game schedule before the early-1960s expansion and 162 games from 1961/1962 onward — this simulates the actual schedule length for whichever era your roster ends up representing, not a fixed number regardless of era.

What is the difference between Classic and Blind Draft mode?

Classic shows full player ratings while you draft. Blind Draft hides every number — you draft on position, archetype, and what you actually remember, then see how your instincts held up once the season simulates.

Why does my roster show bonuses and penalties?

Every completed roster gets a named, specific breakdown of what is and is not working — Ace on the Mound, Shaky Defense, Free-Swinging Lineup, and more — each with the exact reason it triggered.
