About 17-0

What is 17-0?

17-0 is a fast, free NFL roster-building game: spin for an era, draft one player per position across nine rounds — quarterback through defensive back — simulate a full regular season, and see if your roster can finish it undefeated. A perfect run is 17-0 in the modern era, and the goal ends there: the whole game is the regular season. It's built in the same spirit as the small genre of viral "draft an all-time roster and chase an undefeated season" games that spread from basketball to football, but it's an original, independently built game, not a clone of any of them, and not affiliated with any of them.

How to play

Each of the nine rounds targets a specific position: quarterback, running back, two wide receiver slots, tight end, offensive line, defensive line, linebacker, and defensive back, in that order. Spin to reveal an era and a candidate pool, pick your player, and move to the next round. A limited number of rerolls are available if a spin leaves you with nothing that fits. Once all nine positions are filled, the regular season simulates automatically and the run is scored — no bracket, no bye, no Super Bowl.

17-0 vs. 20-0: what's the difference?

17-0 and 20-0 share the same draft and NFL simulation engine, but they stop in different places. In 17-0, the perfect regular season is the game — go undefeated and you've won, full stop. In 20-0, the run keeps going: an undefeated regular season always finishes as the league's #1 seed with a first-round bye, so three single-elimination playoff wins — the Divisional round, the Conference Championship, and the Super Bowl — stand between a flawless 17-game season and a complete 20-0. Choose 17-0 for the pure, quick "run the table" challenge; choose 20-0 when you want the playoff gauntlet stacked on top of it.

Why the schedule length actually changes

Most games in this genre simulate a fixed number of regular-season games regardless of which era you draft from. The real NFL didn't play a consistent schedule length across its history — 14 games through the 1970s, 16 from 1978 to 2020, 17 since 2021 — so 17-0 simulates the actual schedule length for whichever era your roster ends up representing. A flawless 1970s run (14-0) and a flawless 2020s run (17-0) represent a genuinely different amount of regular-season work, and the game names your record accordingly.

Why every pick has to fill a real position — offense and defense

Most games in this genre score a roster by totaling raw production with no real check on roster balance. 17-0 locks each of its nine rounds to a specific position, on both sides of the ball — a roster with no real pass rush or no coverage help behind it gets caught by the chemistry system, not just discovered the hard way when the season simulates.

Classic vs. Blind Draft

Classic mode shows full ratings while you draft, so you can make informed, strategic picks. Blind Draft hides every number — you're drafting on position, archetype, and what you actually remember, then finding out how good your instincts were when the season simulates.

Daily Challenge and leaderboard

Every player who loads 17-0 on the same day gets the exact same sequence of draft options. Submit your result to the live leaderboard — no account required to play or to submit. 17-0 keeps its own separate board and its own saved bests, so your regular-season runs never mix with 20-0's playoff runs.

Frequently asked questions

Is this 17-0 affiliated with the NFL or any other game?

No. This is an independent, original game. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or licensed by the NFL, and it is not a clone of or affiliated with any other roster-building game — including any other product that shares the "17-0" name.

What is the goal in 17-0?

Finish the regular season undefeated. A flawless run is 17-0 in the modern era — and, because the schedule length is era-accurate, 16-0 for a 1978–2020 roster or 14-0 for a pre-1978 one. The simulation stops when the regular season ends; there is no playoff bracket to play through.

How is 17-0 different from 20-0?

They share the same draft and NFL simulation engine, but 20-0 keeps going: an undefeated regular season earns the #1 seed and a bye, then three single-elimination playoff wins (Divisional, Conference Championship, Super Bowl) turn 17-0 into 20-0. In 17-0, the perfect regular season is the whole game — you stop there. Pick 17-0 for the fast, pure "run the table" challenge; pick 20-0 if you want the playoffs on top.

Is 17-0 free to play?

Yes, entirely free, with no account required. Progress and personal bests are saved to your browser only.

How many players do you draft?

Nine, one per round: quarterback, running back, two wide receivers, tight end, offensive line, defensive line, linebacker, and defensive back — a real position on both sides of the ball, not just skill picks.

Does the season length change by era?

Yes. The NFL regular season was 14 games through the 1970s, 16 games from 1978 through 2020, and 17 games from 2021 onward — 17-0 simulates the actual schedule length for whichever era your roster ends up representing, rather than a fixed number regardless of era.

What is the difference between Classic and Blind Draft mode?

Classic shows full player ratings while you draft. Blind Draft hides every number — you draft on position, archetype, and what you actually remember, then see how your instincts held up once the season simulates.

Is there a Daily Challenge and leaderboard?

Yes — everyone who plays 17-0 on the same day gets the exact same sequence of draft options, and you can submit your result to a live leaderboard. It runs on its own separate board, so a 17-0 run never mixes with 20-0 results.
