Step 2: Build lower-body strength (the ceiling)

Train these twice a week, never on back-to-back days, and do them before your strength work while your legs are fresh:

  1. Squat jumps — pause at the bottom of a squat, then jump as high as you can with no dip. 3 to 4 sets of 4 to 6 reps.
  2. Countermovement jumps — a normal max-effort vertical with a quick dip and full arm swing. 3 to 4 sets of 4 to 5 reps.

Step 4: Fix the technique that leaks height

Technique is free inches most people leave on the floor. None of it requires getting stronger, which is why it pays off within a week or two:

  1. Full arm swing. Drive both arms down and back as you dip, then throw them forcefully overhead as you leave the ground. Worth 2 to 4 inches on its own.
  2. Quick, moderate dip. Sink to about a quarter-to-half squat and reverse instantly. Too shallow wastes stored energy; too deep stalls the transition. It should feel like a bounce, not a pause.
