What comes to your mind when you think of the word mountains? If I talk about myself, I get excited when I think of mountains. The peace and the beauty they carry within themselves are something I can’t put into words. These greatest mountaineers of all time are lucky enough to have built a second home in the mountains.
One of my biggest dreams is to have a home in the mountains. Of course, not every dream is fulfilled but I often look forward to a mini getaway in the mountains to feel on top of the world. That feeling is indescribable. I am sure you are also as crazy about it as I am. And I think it’s good to escape to the mountains to get a break from daily mundane lives.

1. Sir Edmund Hillary
Sir Edmund Hillary who was a New Zealand explorer, mountaineer, and philanthropist was part of the British expedition to Everest. It was led by John Hunt and he became the first climber to reach Mount Everest with Nepalese Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay.
Hillary did his first ever major climb by reaching the Summit of Mount Ollivier in the year 1939. He was also named among the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. He was also the first person to reach the Summit of Everest and both poles. Besides that, he also served the forces as a navigator during World War II.
2. Tenzing Norgay
Tenzing Norgay is one of the famous mountaineers. He was also one of the first two individuals to have reached the Summit of Mount Everest besides Sir Edmund Hillary. He also made it among the 100 most influential people of the 20th century.
Tenzing due to his incredible efforts on the first successful expedition to Mount Everest was given the George Medal by Queen Elizabeth II. Another notable achievement includes the Padma Bhushan award that he received from the Government of India in 1959. He was also awarded the Order of the Star of Nepal by the King Tribhuvan of Nepal.
3. Reinhold Messner
Reinhold Messner was an Italian mountaineer and explorer who was widely regarded as the greatest climber to ever exist in history. His first-ever successful expedition to the Himalayan eight-thousanders was his ascent of Nanga Parbat.
Messner became the most successful climber to have summited all the eight-thousander peaks in the world. He was the first climber with verified ascents of all the 14 eight-thousanders without having bottled oxygen. He also climbed K2, Mount Everest, Kangchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, and many more. He surely deserves his place on this list of greatest mountaineers of all time.
4. Lino Lacedelli
Lino Lacadelli was an Italian mountaineer and the first man to reach the Summit of K2 also known as Godwin Austin. He was trained under the guidance of the best Dolomite rock climber Luigi Bibi Ghedina. He also achieved international recognition with his second ascent of Bonatti Chigo in the Grand Capucin.
Lino also reached the Summit of K2 as the first successful ascent in 154 through the Abruzzi Ridge. He was also awarded the Knight of the Grand Cross which is said to be Italy’s highest honor. He was not only a mountain climber but also a book writer. He wrote two of the bestselling books on mountaineering experience.
5. Carlos Carsolio
Lastly, I have Carlos Carsolio on the list who was a Mexican mountain climber. He was also the second youngest mountaineer to have climbed all 14 eight-thousander mountain peaks. His first-ever successful expedition to the Himalayan eight-thousander was his ascent of Nanga Parbat.
Carlos also submitted all the eight-thousanders peaks in the world successfully. He became the fourth climber who climbed all 14 eight-thousanders without bottled oxygen. He also climbed Mount Everest, K2, Manaslu, Broad Peak, and many more.
