Pierluigi Collina: The Benchmark

Collina’s shaved head and pale, wide eyes made him instantly recognisable on a pitch, but that’s not why players trusted him. He talked to them constantly through a match, defusing arguments before they became cards, and earned compliance through respect rather than raising his voice.
