Premier League Records: Points, Goals, Wins and More

Here is the Premier League record book in one place: most points, most goals, biggest win, longest unbeaten run, worst season and most titles. Manchester City hold the points and goals records, Manchester United the titles and the joint-biggest win, and Arsenal the only unbeaten season plus the longest unbeaten run.

Every figure below refers to the 38-game era unless noted. The Premier League ran a 42-game season from 1992 to 1995, and older First Division records reach back more than a century, so totals are not always comparable across eras. Where that matters, it is flagged.

Most points: 100

Manchester City’s 2017–18 side is the only team in English top-flight history to reach 100 points. They finished on a record 100 from 38 games, ahead of Liverpool’s 99 in 2019–20 and City’s own 98 the following season. Most goals: 106

The same City side scored 106 goals in 2017–18, more than any team has managed, beating Chelsea’s 103 from 2009–10. The individual record belongs to Erling Haaland, whose 36 goals in 2022–23 is the most in the 38-game era, ahead of the 34 that Alan Shearer and Andy Cole each scored in the older 42-game format. Biggest win: 9-0

The record victory margin is nine goals, achieved four times. Manchester United beat Ipswich Town 9-0 in March 1995, Andy Cole scoring five. Leicester City won 9-0 away at Southampton in October 2019, the biggest away win in the competition’s history. Manchester United beat Southampton 9-0 again in February 2021, and Liverpool thrashed Bournemouth 9-0 in August 2022. No team has ever won a Premier League match by ten.

Longest unbeaten run: 49 games

Arsenal went 49 league games without defeat between May 2003 and October 2004, breaking Nottingham Forest’s 42 from the late 1970s. The run spanned three seasons and ended in a 2-0 loss at Manchester United. It remains the English top-flight record, though longer runs exist elsewhere in world football. The only unbeaten season

Arsenal’s 2003–04 side is the only team to go a full 38-game Premier League season without losing: 26 wins, 12 draws, no defeats, 90 points. Those 12 draws are the reason “unbeaten” is not the same as winning every game, a distinction explored across Europe’s other unbeaten champions in invincible seasons in world football.

Worst season: 11 points

At the other end, Derby County’s 2007–08 is the worst campaign in Premier League history: 11 points, one win, 29 defeats across 38 games. It is the record low for both points and wins. Most titles: 13

Manchester United have won the Premier League 13 times, the most of any club, though their last title came in 2012–13. Manchester City are next, with eight by 2024, seven of them since 2017–18 under Guardiola. Reading the record book

Set these numbers side by side and one theme repeats. The best points total, 100, is still 14 short of the maximum 114. The longest unbeaten run, 49 games, contained 13 draws. The only unbeaten season had 12. Each record marks how close a great side came to flawless in one dimension while dropping something in another. Most of these figures move slowly, but the points and goals marks are the live ones, so re-check them after any dominant title win.
