Premier League Records: The Complete Updated Record Book

The Premier League points record is Manchester City’s 100 from 2017-18, but that is only one line in the competition’s record book. Manchester United lead the title count with 13, Alan Shearer has the most goals with 260, James Milner has the most appearances with 658 and Arsenal’s 49-match unbeaten run remains unmatched.

This page uses the Premier League’s official records and is current through the completed 2025-26 season. It covers the Premier League era, which began in 1992, rather than every season in the history of England’s top division.

Premier League records at a glance

The headline records span team seasons, individual careers and single matches. The season column is included wherever the mark came from one campaign.

These figures answer different questions. A season total tests one side across one campaign; a career total rewards both peak performance and longevity. They should not be rolled into one ranking of the “best” record.

What changed in the 2025-26 season?

Four widely searched entries changed or were equalled during 2025-26:

• James Milner reached 658 appearances, moving past Gareth Barry’s previous career record of 653. He also extended the record to 24 Premier League seasons.
• Bruno Fernandes recorded 21 assists, one more than the former single-season record shared by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
• Max Dowman became the youngest goalscorer at 16 years and 73 days. Ethan Nwaneri still holds the separate youngest-player record at 15 years and 181 days.
• Bournemouth drew 18 matches, equalling the overall season record and setting the mark for a 38-match campaign. The previous 18-draw seasons all came when clubs played 42 games.

Fans disputed the attribution behind Fernandes’s final assist in public discussion, illustrating why assist totals can vary across data providers. The competition’s official announcement credits him with 21, so that is the record used here. This page does not substitute fan consensus for the league’s official statistic.

Team season records

Manchester City’s 2017-18 side appears repeatedly because the same campaign produced 100 points, 32 wins, 106 goals and a goal difference of plus 79. It was not a perfect season: City drew four and lost two, leaving the record 14 points short of the theoretical 114.

Player records

Career leaderboards move differently from one-season marks. Shearer’s 260 goals and Giggs’s 162 assists took many years to build. Haaland’s 36 goals and Fernandes’s 21 assists came from one 38-match campaign.

Biggest wins and highest-scoring matches

A biggest win measures margin; a highest-scoring game measures total goals. Those are not the same record.

Four results share the nine-goal winning margin:

4. Liverpool 9-0 Bournemouth, 27 August 2022

The highest-scoring match is Portsmouth’s 7-4 win over Reading on 29 September 2007, which produced 11 goals but a margin of only three. The highest-scoring draw is West Bromwich Albion 5-5 Manchester United on 19 May 2013.

Winning and unbeaten streaks

Manchester City and Liverpool share the longest winning run at 18 matches. City set the mark from August to December 2017; Liverpool matched it from October 2019 to February 2020.

Arsenal’s longest Premier League unbeaten run lasted 49 matches from 7 May 2003 to 24 October 2004. It crossed two seasons: the final matches of 2002-03, the entire unbeaten 2003-04 campaign and the opening stretch of 2004-05. Chelsea hold the home version with 86 matches without defeat at Stamford Bridge between February 2004 and October 2008.

Arsenal remain the only club to finish a 38-match Premier League season unbeaten. Their 2003-04 record was 26 wins, 12 draws and no losses. That feat and the 49-match run are related, but they are not interchangeable.

Which records look hardest to break?

There is no objective formula for “unbreakable,” and football eventually makes that label look foolish. Still, fan discussions repeatedly single out four marks: Chelsea conceding only 15 goals, Chelsea’s 86 unbeaten home matches, Brad Friedel’s 310 consecutive appearances and Arsenal’s unbeaten season.

The reasoning is more useful than the verdict. A career scoring record can be chased one goal at a time, but an unbeaten streak disappears after one bad afternoon. A defensive season depends on the whole team for 38 matches. Friedel’s run required availability, selection and consistency for more than eight straight seasons.

Shearer’s 260 attracts the most familiar debate. Some supporters see Haaland’s scoring rate and call it reachable; others point to the years a player must remain fit, productive and in England. Both are projections. The record book supplies the total, not the future.

How to compare Premier League records correctly

Premier League statistics begin in 1992-93. They do not erase the old First Division, but they answer a narrower competition-era question. Shearer has the most Premier League goals, for example, while a search for all English top-flight goals uses a longer historical scope.

Schedule length matters too. Clubs played 42 matches in each of the first three Premier League seasons and 38 from 1995-96 onward. Andy Cole and Alan Shearer’s 34-goal seasons came in the 42-match format; Haaland scored 36 in 38 matches. Bournemouth’s 18 draws came in 38, while the three earlier clubs to reach 18 each played 42.
