Virat Kohli Shared His Yo-Yo Test Score Ahead of The Asia Cup 2023

Just hours after one of the greatest batsmen of all time, Virat Kohli shared his yo-yo test score on social media, a directive from the Indian team management has urged players to refrain from disclosing their fitness scores to the public.

Sources indicate that this guidance originates from the higher echelons of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which deemed the release of such information as confidential and unsuitable for public dissemination.

The incident occurred shortly after Kohli took to Instagram on Thursday to post about his completion of the yo-yo test: “The happiness of finishing the Yo-Yo test between the dreaded cones. 17.2 don.” Despite the innocuous nature of the post, it did not sit well with the BCCI officials.

A BCCI official clarified the stance: “Players have been informed verbally to avoid posting any confidential matter on social media platforms. They can post pictures while training, but posting a score leads to breach of contract clause.”

The ongoing six-day conditioning camp in Alur, Bangalore, has seen players undergoing the yo-yo test as part of their fitness assessment.

However, given the continuous cricketing engagements, the yo-yo scores can fluctuate. The team management’s instruction to players revolves around adhering to the predefined fitness benchmarks, irrespective of the fluctuations in the yo-yo scores.

As the focus shifts towards the forthcoming Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, players who were given a 13-day fitness program will undergo comprehensive fitness evaluations, including blood tests.

Trainers will evaluate their physical fitness, with underperforming players subject to corrective measures. This approach stems from the BCCI’s commitment to preparing a formidable squad for the impending World Cup.

The fitness program, structured over two phases separated by a rest day, was originally scheduled from August 9-22. Its primary objective was to keep all players in optimal physical condition, safeguarding against potential injuries that could jeopardize India’s aspirations in the ICC Cricket World Cup.

Players who returned from the West Indies and were not part of the Ireland T20I series were entrusted with the 13-day fitness program.

This contingent included notable figures such as captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja, as well as fast bowlers Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj. The program’s design aimed at maintaining players’ peak fitness and preventing any setbacks that could undermine India’s quest for cricketing glory on the global stage.
