This is a listed-height record, not a ranking of the best big men. A player qualifies for the historical list only after appearing in an NBA regular-season game. Players at the same official height share a rank, so the list includes all 14 players at 7 feet 4 inches or taller instead of cutting a tie to force a top 10. Current roster status is covered separately below.

Gheorghe Muresan (7'7")
Muresan shares the official NBA height record with Manute Bol. The Romanian center played 307 regular-season games for Washington and New Jersey between 1993 and 2000. His best season came in 1995-96, when he averaged 14.5 points, led the league in field-goal percentage and won Most Improved Player.
That productive peak separates him from the idea that every extreme-height player was only a roster novelty. The Washington Wizards' alumni record lists him at 7'7" and preserves the award and scoring details.

Manute Bol (7'7")
Bol was also listed at 7'7", so there is no honest way to rank him second on height. He played 625 games across 10 NBA seasons and led the league in total blocks twice. In his 1985-86 rookie season alone, he blocked 397 shots.
His unusual career also explains why height and role should not be confused. Bol averaged more blocks than points and was used primarily as a specialist rim protector. He and Muresan remain the only two players at the NBA's official 7'7" ceiling.

Yao Ming (7'6")
Yao is tied in height with Shawn Bradley and Tacko Fall, but his NBA career stands alone within that tier. Houston selected him first overall in 2002, and he became an eight-time All-Star before entering the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.
The distinction matters because many searches for the tallest NBA player are really asking for the tallest superstar. At 7'6", Yao is the tallest player to build a sustained All-Star career, even though Muresan and Bol were one inch taller.

Shawn Bradley (7'6")
Bradley played 832 regular-season games, far more than most players in the two tallest height tiers. The No. 2 pick in the 1993 draft spent 12 seasons with Philadelphia, New Jersey and Dallas, finishing with 2,119 blocks.
He led the NBA in total blocks in 1996-97. That made him a genuine rotation center and shot blocker, even though his career never reached the star expectations attached to his draft position.

Tacko Fall (7'6")
Fall appeared in 37 NBA games for Boston and Cleveland from 2019 to 2022, which makes him eligible for the historical list. His limited NBA minutes do not change his height rank: the league lists him at 7'6", level with Yao and Bradley.
Philadelphia signed Fall on September 1, 2026. The deal was reported as an Exhibit 10 training-camp contract, so it should not be described as a guaranteed regular-season return. As of this page's cutoff, however, the 76ers team page lists him and makes him the tallest player attached to an NBA roster.

Chuck Nevitt (7'5")
Nevitt played 155 regular-season games during a stop-start career that stretched from 1982 to 1994. He rarely received heavy minutes, but he remained in the league long enough to appear for five franchises and earn a championship ring with the 1984-85 Lakers.
His career is a useful counterweight to short-lived 7'5" prospects. Nevitt was never a primary center, yet he repeatedly found reserve roles over more than a decade.

Pavel Podkolzin (7'5")
Dallas acquired Podkolzin's draft rights in 2004, but the Russian center appeared in only six NBA games over two seasons. A Mavericks media guide lists him at 7'5", placing him level with Nevitt, Sim Bhullar and Slavko Vranes.
His small sample is exactly why this page uses appearance as the eligibility line rather than games played as a tiebreaker. Six games were enough to become an NBA player, but not enough to support claims about what he might have become.

Sim Bhullar (7'5")
Bhullar played three games for Sacramento in April 2015. When the Kings signed him to a 10-day contract, the team identified him as the first player of Indian descent on an NBA regular-season roster.
His NBA career lasted only 16 minutes, but the historical first is more meaningful than padding the entry with projections. The Kings' announcement lists him at 7'5" and records why the signing mattered beyond height.

Slavko Vranes (7'5")
Vranes appeared once for Portland in January 2004 and played three minutes. Some older roundups put him at 7'6", but both his current NBA statistics page and Basketball-Reference list him at 7'5".
That correction moves him out of the Yao-Bradley-Fall tier. It also shows why this list follows documented NBA listings consistently instead of selecting whichever measurement makes a player sound taller.

Victor Wembanyama (7'4")
The NBA lists Wembanyama at 7'4". He is not the tallest player in league history, and the current additions of Fall and Sharp mean he is not the tallest name attached to a 2026 NBA roster either.
He is, however, the tallest established star in the current league. His combination of rim protection, shooting and ball handling makes him a better answer to "best very tall current player" than to the literal height-record question.

Ralph Sampson (7'4")
Sampson entered the league as the No. 1 pick in 1983, won Rookie of the Year and made four consecutive All-Star teams. Houston paired him with Hakeem Olajuwon in the original "Twin Towers" frontcourt, which reached the 1986 NBA Finals.
Injuries reduced his later seasons, but his peak and 2012 Hall of Fame induction give him one of the strongest resumes on this page. He shares rank 10 because the order is based only on listed height.

Mark Eaton (7'4")
Eaton played all 875 of his regular-season games for Utah and won Defensive Player of the Year twice. His 456 blocks and 5.6 blocks per game in 1984-85 remain single-season NBA records, while his 3.5 career average is also the league record.
Those achievements make him one of the most effective specialists among the tallest players ever. He is not in the Basketball Hall of Fame, so the old page's "Hall-of-Fame-caliber" wording has been removed rather than presented as an official distinction.

Rik Smits (7'4")
Smits spent his entire 12-season career with Indiana after the Pacers drafted him second overall in 1988. He played 867 regular-season games, made the 1998 All-Star team and started at center during Indiana's run to the 2000 NBA Finals.
His longevity is unusual near the top of this list. Smits was not merely kept for emergency size; he became a dependable scorer and starter for a perennial playoff team.

Boban Marjanovic (7'4")
Marjanovic entered the NBA with San Antonio in 2015 and became an efficient scorer and rebounder in limited minutes for several teams. His role was usually situational, but he lasted far longer than many taller prospects and appeared in more than 300 regular-season games.
He belongs in the historical 7'4" tier whether or not he is on a current NBA roster. That separation avoids turning a permanent record list into a claim about his present contract status.

Who is the tallest NBA player right now?
As of September 4, 2026, Tacko Fall is the tallest player listed by an NBA team. Philadelphia lists him at 7’6”, but his reported Exhibit 10 deal is designed for training camp and can end before the regular season. It is more accurate to say he is the tallest current team listing than to promise he will be the tallest opening-night player.

The NBA G League profile for Jamarion Sharp lists him at 7’5”, and the league’s two-way tracker connects him to the Clippers. He is not in the historical ranking yet because this page requires an NBA regular-season appearance. If he debuts, he will join the four-player 7’5” tie.
How this height ranking works
The order follows official listed NBA height, not estimates from photographs and not career achievement. Equal heights receive equal ranks. That is why Yao Ming does not rank above Tacko Fall here despite having the stronger career, and why five 7’4” players all share rank 10.
For the historical list, a player must have appeared in an NBA regular-season game. Being drafted, signing a camp contract or playing in another league is not enough. The current table then covers players whose contract status matters now, even if they have not yet made an NBA regular-season appearance.
That distinction removes two common sources of confusion:
- A very tall prospect can be drafted without ever becoming an NBA player.
- A player can sign with an NBA organization but be waived before opening night.
Why official heights sometimes look wrong
Fans often compare two players standing together and conclude that one listing must be wrong. That reaction makes sense: NBA heights have been published from different measurement systems, including in-shoes figures, barefoot figures and rounded team listings. Hair, footwear, posture and camera angle can also make a visual comparison unreliable.
This page therefore answers a narrower and reproducible question: what height did the NBA or team officially list for the player? It does not claim that every number is a precise present-day tape measurement. When reliable listings conflict, as they did in older roundups for Slavko Vranes, the current NBA and statistical record takes priority and the discrepancy is explained.
What height does and does not predict
The list ranges from Hall of Fame players to men who appeared for only a few minutes. Extreme height helped each player attract attention, but it did not determine skill, role or longevity. Yao Ming became an eight-time All-Star, Eaton built a record-setting defensive career, and Vranes played once. A height table cannot rank those careers fairly.
The reverse is also true. Players at the other end of the shortest NBA players list built long careers through speed, control and decision-making. Athletic traits also show up differently in the highest NBA vertical jumps and the league’s oldest-player records. Height is one tool, not a verdict.
Tallest does not mean greatest
If this were a ranking of career value, Yao, Sampson, Eaton and Smits would move ahead of several taller players. A list of the greatest NBA players has to weigh peak performance, longevity, postseason impact and competition rather than inches.
That difference also explains why this page does not add Robert Bobroczky to the NBA ranking. His exceptional height made him a well-known prospect, but the Robert Bobroczky profile follows a different career path and he has not appeared in an NBA regular-season game.
Record status and next review
The all-time record has remained 7’7” since Muresan joined Bol in the league in 1993. The current-player answer is less stable. Camp cuts, two-way conversions, NBA debuts and revised official listings can change it quickly, especially before opening night.
