Most Super Bowl Wins as a Player: Brady Leads With 7

Tom Brady has the most Super Bowl wins of any player, with seven rings. He won six with the New England Patriots between the 2001 and 2018 seasons, then a seventh with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the 2020 season. No other player has more than five.

This is a different record from the team one. The Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots share the franchise mark at six titles each, yet one quarterback has beaten every franchise on his own. That is possible because a player can carry his ring count from team to team, while a franchise is stuck with itself.

Players with the most Super Bowl rings

The last row stands in for a group, not one man. More than 20 Pittsburgh players were on all four Steelers championship teams of the 1970s (Super Bowls IX, X, XIII and XIV), including Franco Harris, Joe Greene, Jack Lambert, Jack Ham, Mel Blount, Mike Webster and Lynn Swann. Each holds four rings, the same as Bradshaw, so the four-ring tier is easily the most crowded on the list.

Why Brady sits alone at seven

Brady’s total is built on two things almost no career combines: longevity and a title-heavy team. His six rings in New England came across an 18-year window, which meant staying elite long enough to catch multiple champion rosters rather than one dynasty peak. Then, at 43, he left, joined Tampa Bay and won again, becoming the only player to add a ring with a second franchise this late in a career.

Take away that Tampa Bay title and he would be tied at the top of the six-ring conversation with nobody, since no other player reached six at all. The seventh ring is what makes the record look untouchable rather than merely leading.

Charles Haley and the five-ring club of one

For years the player record for rings belonged to Charles Haley, who won two with the San Francisco 49ers in the late 1980s and three with the Dallas Cowboys in the 1990s. He was the first player to reach five, and he is still the only player besides Brady to get there. A pass rusher rather than a quarterback, Haley is the reminder that this record is not reserved for the position that gets the headlines.

Rings for players who barely played

One quirk separates the player record from the team record. A Super Bowl ring goes to every player on the championship roster, including injured reserve, practice-squad promotions and backups who never take a snap in the game. So a ring count is a measure of being on winning rosters, not always of winning them.
