The Brewers did not take a night off after winning the World Series. One night after clinching the franchise’s first title, they carried the Commissioner’s Trophy into Lambeau Field during the Packers’ Thursday night game against Carolina, and Sal Frelick finished the visit the way Packers players do, by leaping into the stands.

What did the Brewers do at Lambeau Field?

They turned a timeout into a championship lap. The Brewers were recognized at the end of the first quarter, Packers News reports, and came out of the tunnel to a loud ovation from the sold-out crowd, raising the Commissioner’s Trophy in the air. USA Today places the appearance just after the first quarter, and AP places it during a timeout before the second quarter, but every account agrees on the shape of it: a group of Brewers, the trophy held high, and a stadium that treats a baseball championship as its own.

The timing mattered. Milwaukee had wrapped up the title on Wednesday night in St. Petersburg, beating Tampa Bay 4-1 in Game 5, as covered in the Game 5 title story. Less than a day later the trophy was 120 miles north in Green Bay, in front of a crowd that had waited far longer for its own football championship. The visit was a reminder that Wisconsin’s two biggest teams share a fan base, and that the Brewers’ win belonged to the whole state, not just Milwaukee.

Who carried the trophy, and who took the Leap?

Brandon Woodruff carried it, and Sal Frelick jumped with it. Woodruff led the group onto the field with the trophy, USA Today and AP report, followed by captain Christian Yelich, Frelick and Jacob Misiorowski. A few Brewers then tried the Lambeau Leap, the tradition in which a Packers player jumps into the stands after a touchdown, and AP says Frelick had the most success. The New York Post describes Frelick throwing his hand in the air as fans mobbed him, and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel notes the obvious backstory: Frelick was a standout high school quarterback and the Gatorade Massachusetts player of the year as a senior, so a leap into a crowd held no fear for him.

The rest of the night kept the baseball theme going. The Brewers’ racing sausages held a contest on the field later in the game, USA Today reports, and the players were shown on the video board wearing cheesehead hats marked 2026 WS Champions, AP reports. The New York Post adds that they were later shown seated in a suite with the trophy. It was a full evening of cross-sport celebration, not a single photo opportunity.

What did the Packers players make of it?

They loved it, and they said so plainly. Safety Evan Williams told Packers News the crowd reaction was probably the loudest applause he had heard at Lambeau outside of big plays, and called it a really cool moment for the city of Green Bay. Safety Xavier McKinney went further, congratulating the Brewers on a championship he called difficult to win in any sport, and saying that seeing the trophy gave the Packers energy.

McKinney also drew a line that Packers fans will remember. Asked if he wanted to touch the trophy, he said no, that is their trophy, and the Packers have to get one of their own and then do the same thing in reverse, visiting a Brewers game with it. The Brewers’ win left the Packers with the longest title drought among Wisconsin’s major men’s professional teams, USA Today notes, since the Milwaukee Bucks won the NBA title in 2021. McKinney’s answer turned that fact into a challenge rather than a complaint.

Why does this moment land differently in Wisconsin?

Because the two teams have spent the last few years trading places in the state’s affections. The Brewers were the team that kept losing the people who built them, as the title story’s account of the departures lays out, and they won anyway. The Packers, meanwhile, have been the NFC’s No. 7 seed three years running with one playoff win in that stretch, USA Today notes, and have not reached a Super Bowl since the 2010 season. One franchise just ended a 44-year wait. The other is still in one.

The Lambeau visit collapsed that distance for a night. The same fans who watched Christian Yelich benched for a game against a left-handed ace in the NLCS were now watching him take a bow at a football stadium. The Uecker family’s letter as the Brewers reached the Series, covered in the family’s message to Milwaukee, framed the run as a civic event. The Lambeau Leap did the same thing in physical form: a Brewer, in the stands, with Packers fans.

What did the Packers do once the Brewers left the field?

They won, and the trophy may have helped. Green Bay beat Carolina 27-19, AP reports, led 20-10 at halftime, and improved to 5-3. Jordan Love threw three touchdown passes, Josh Jacobs scored twice, and the Packers sacked Bryce Young six times while holding a fifth straight opponent to 20 points or fewer. Carolina cut the lead to 27-19 with 5:37 left, but lost the ball on downs at midfield with 2:41 remaining and never threatened again.

The win also carried its own drama, separate from the Brewers. Packers receiver Christian Watson left the game with a chest injury, went to a hospital for precautionary testing, and returned to finish the game, a story covered in Watson’s hospital round trip. Between the trophy visit and the Watson return, Lambeau hosted two of the season’s most unlikely sights in a single night, and the home team won anyway.

What happens next for the Brewers?

A parade, and then the winter. The Milwaukee Brewers Championship Celebration takes place on Friday, October 30, with the parade starting at 10 a.m. from North 4th Street and West Wisconsin Avenue, proceeding through downtown Milwaukee and concluding at Henry Maier Festival Park. Officials expect a crowd of at least 400,000, and the first 50,000 fans at the rally receive a championship towel. The Lambeau visit was the warm-up act. Friday is the main event, and after the strangest week in franchise history, Milwaukee gets to celebrate it properly.
